Faith-Based Wealth Management Isn't What You Think
Why do most assume Christian wealth management is just regular investing with a prayer attached?
From my investment and financial management background, now examining Christian wealth management, I’ve noticed a fundamental misconception: Many assume faith-based investing means avoiding “sin stocks” and adding a Bible verse to quarterly reports.
The reality is far more nuanced and profound.
Common Misconceptions vs. Reality:
1. Misconception: “Christian wealth management is just conventional investing with religious restrictions.”
Reality: It’s a comprehensive framework that should reshape how we view:
- Risk assessment (beyond market metrics)
- Portfolio construction (kingdom impact)
- Client relationships (spiritual stewardship)
2. Misconception: “Faith-based investing means lower returns.”
Reality: Biblical principles often align with sound financial practices:
- Long-term perspective reduces costly emotional decisions
- Stewardship mindset promotes better risk management
- Value-based investing can identify sustainable opportunities
3. Misconception: “Adding Scripture references makes it ‘Christian’”
Reality: True integration requires:
- Biblical principles informing investment strategy
- Kingdom values driving client conversations
- Technical expertise serving spiritual goals
Personal Insight:
Having spent decades in institutional finance, I realize that authentic Christian wealth management isn’t about limiting options but expanding our view of what wealth can accomplish for God’s kingdom.
The sad truth is that most Christian advisors are much more competent in their investment management and financial advisory skills than they are in understanding the Bible and the fundamental doctrines of faith. To move forward effectively, the spiritual side has to be enhanced.
This is not a question of their salvation but of their sanctification.
ENGAGEMENT QUESTIONS:
As I study this industry, I’m convinced that true Christian wealth management isn’t restricted to traditional methods—it elevates them.
I’d love to hear from experienced advisors:
- “What assumptions did you have about Christian wealth management before entering the field?”
- “How has your understanding of faith-based investing evolved?”
- “What’s the biggest misconception you encounter from potential clients?”

PSS…I have recently developed a Ghostwriting professional service that develops LinkedIn site content for Christian investment advisors and managers. Essentially, I ghostwrite LinkedIn content to bridge financial expertise with kingdom impact. Most of these posts will appear on the Substack website, and I will leave it to you if you want to subscribe and receive them automatically. Although this subsection combines my professional experience as a CPA, CFP, and investment manager with my biblical knowledge and interests, I realize many will only be interested in the original Substack - The Inevitable Truth. And that is perfectly fine. If you know of professionals who might be interested in this service, I ask that you refer them to this site. I also leave my professional LinkedIn profile for your review if interested.
Thank you,
Thad
